Intersectional Lake Social at The Point
July 13, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm UTC+0
Community Councils Working Group is holding space at The Point for those who can’t make it to our Monday meetings.
We will have prison abolitionists, tenants unionists, and people who have been working on the Heartland campaign to stop the for profit incarceration of immigrant children to discuss how these must intersect in order to intensify the class struggle.
Bring friends and snacks or drinks!
IMPORTANT! IF THERE IS BAD WEATHER
If there is bad weather, we will retreat to Cove Lounge (1750 E 55th St, Chicago, IL 60615)
Much free parking can be found on South Shore Drive (NOT South Lake Shore Dr.)
Reach us at ChicagoCCWG@gmail.com or (872) 760-4616 (text or call) for ANY questions.
ABOUT COMMUNITY COUNCILS WORKING GROUP
Workers councils, soviets, mirs, communes, caracoles, collectives, asambleas populares—all key bodies of working-class autonomy and self-government from past to present.
They are as relevant as ever, but still vastly misunderstood and underdeveloped. Why must we build them today? How should they relate? How can they be part of new, comprehensible institutions? And controlled by the grassroots?
Community Councils Working Group is a catalytic space to facilitate discussion and development of such self-governing institutions as necessary platforms for collective democratic empowerment. Our approach involves coalition building within our own communities while using group meetings to share best practices and improve our local organizing strategies.
