North Side Town Hall: Democratizing Police Accountability in Chicago
January 23 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
As a resident of Chicago, you are invited and encouraged to attend this Town Hall on Police Accountability to hear from Aldermanic candidates in the 40th, 46th, 47th, 48th, 49th, and 50th wards (Rogers Park, West Ridge, Edgewater, Andersonville, Uptown, North Center, Lincoln Square, and Ravenswood).
Moderated by David Stovall, professor of African-American Studies; Criminology, Law & Justice at UIC, this Town Hall will be an opportunity to find out where Aldermanic incumbents and challengers stand on an elected police accountability system in Chicago. Legislation is currently pending in City Council that would do just that: the Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC) ordinance was first introduced in 2016 and because of the growing demand for an elected system, other legislation based on CPAC has since followed.
Email your questions for candidates to firstname.lastname@example.org or bring them with you for a chance to have your question posed to candidates.
This Town Hall is presented by the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, Anakbayan, Chicago DSA, Black Lives Matter Chicago, the Chicago Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines (CCHRP), Chicago Boricua Resistance, and Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ).
