Solidarity Economy Working Group Meeting

January 16 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Solidarity. Equity In All Dimensions. Participatory Democracy. Sustainability. Pluralism. These are the five principles used by the US Solidarity Economy Network to define the solidarity economy.

Solidarity is a cohesion developed in the course of common struggle. A solidarity economy is how we build a parallel economic infrastructure in the present which aligns with our vision of a more free, democratic, and humane society that serves people in ways extractive capitalism can not and will not.

At this month’s meeting, we will:

–Continue discussing last month’s reading of “Solidarity Economy: Building an Economy for People & Planet” by Emily Kawano for The Next System Project available at the following link https://thenextsystem.org/learn/stories/solidarity-economy-building-economy-people-planet

–recap recent developments in Chicago’s solidarity economy landscape (such as the Urban Innovation Symposium on Jan. 25th)

–discuss ways to introduce solidarity economy positions during the upcoming electoral cycle

–brainstorm popular education projects to grow public awareness and understanding of a solidarity economy

We’re meeting at Harold Washington Library 6th Floor South
