Solidarity Economy Working Group Meeting
August 21 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Solidarity. Equity In All Dimensions. Participatory Democracy. Sustainability. Pluralism. These are the five principles uplifted by the US Solidarity Economy Network to define a solidarity economy.
Solidarity is a social cohesion developed through common struggle. A solidarity economy is how we build a parallel economic system in the present more aligned with our vision of a free, democratic, and egalitarian society which serves people and planet in ways extractive market capitalism can not and will not.
Our working mission to educate, advocate, and build a community of practice in Chicago around a vision of a democratic economy.
At this month’s meeting, we will:
–recap recent developments in Chicago’s solidarity economy landscape
–discuss personal ways we are working to further the solidarity economy
–brainstorm shared projects to grow public understanding of a solidarity economy
–seek writing and research for sections of a zine/pamphlet highlighting Chicago’s solidarity economy initiatives
–discuss how the Boston Ujima Project is employing a solidarity economy framework in their democratic investment fund and its adjoining ecosystem
We’re meeting at Harold Washington Library 6th Floor South [exiting elevator head straight and make right at back wall]. The library is ADA accessible however it does not have gender neutral bathrooms.
