Solidarity Economy Working Group Meeting
September 18 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm UTC+0
Solidarity. Equity In All Dimensions. Participatory Democracy. Sustainability. Pluralism. These are the five principles uplifted by the US Solidarity Economy Network to define a solidarity economy.
Solidarity is a social cohesion developed through common struggle. A solidarity economy is how we build a parallel economic system in the present more aligned with our vision of a free, democratic, and egalitarian society which serves people and planet in ways extractive market capitalism can not and will not.
Our working mission to educate, advocate, and build a community of practice in Chicago around a vision of a democratic economy.
At this month’s meeting, we will:
–recap recent developments in Chicago’s solidarity economy landscape
–discuss personal ways we are working to further the solidarity economy
–brainstorm shared projects to grow public understanding of a solidarity economy
–seek writing and research for sections of a zine/pamphlet highlighting Chicago’s solidarity economy initiatives
–discuss recent meeting of Chicago Housing Justice League and their push to redirect significant funding towards affordable housing in Chicago’s Five Year Housing Plan
–discuss next steps for Illinois Coalition for Cooperative Advancement and their desire to host community teach-ins on HB3663 (Limited Worker Cooperative Association Act)
–updates on upcoming trips to New Economy Coalition Annual Member Meeting, Symbiosis Congress of Municipal Movements, & Eco-Socialism Conference
We’re meeting at Harold Washington Library 7th Floor South. The library is ADA accessible however it does not have gender neutral bathrooms.
