Solidarity Economy Working Group Meeting
November 20, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm CST
Solidarity. Equity In All Dimensions. Participatory Democracy. Sustainability. Pluralism. These are the five principles uplifted by the US Solidarity Economy Network to define a solidarity economy.
Solidarity is a social cohesion developed through common struggle. A solidarity economy is how we build a parallel economic system in the present more aligned with our vision of a free, democratic, and egalitarian society which serves people and planet in ways extractive market capitalism can not and will not.
Our working mission to educate, advocate, and build a community of practice in Chicago around a vision of a democratic economy.
At this month’s meeting, we will:
–recap recent developments in Chicago’s solidarity economy landscape
–discuss personal ways we are working to further the solidarity economy
–brainstorm shared projects to grow public understanding of a solidarity economy
–revisit shared project assignments for zine/pamphlet highlighting Chicago’s solidarity economy initiatives
–recap proposal for #RadTalks event to coincide with launch of zine/pamphlet release
–evaluate the work of Co-operate WNC and their connection to the work of Western North Carolina New Economy Coalition
We’re meeting at Harold Washington Library 7th Floor North. The library is ADA accessible however it does not have gender neutral bathrooms.
