We fight for high quality public schooling for all: organizing Local School Councils; resisting school closings and demanding high-quality, fully funded, truly public neighborhood schools; and lobbying for an Elected Representative School Board.
What We Do
We have organized almost 20 people who are running for Local School Councils across the city, and have supported the GEM coalition in their fight against the newest round of attempted school closures. The working group was founded in 2017.
Our Leadership Structure
Currently the only elected position is two co-chairs, and we have a term of 2 years (which coincides with Local School Council elections and terms).
We need lots of help with administrative tasks, messaging (as in perfecting the wording of our various materials/platforms/media), phonebanking, keeping in touch with members, and doing turnout for various actions. Make sure to check the calendar for our next meeting.
Please reach out to Devyn Russel (email@example.com) or Ambria Taylor (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information about the Public Education Working Group.
