The Socialist Feminist Working Group of the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America aims to bring a socialist feminist perspective to Chicago DSA and to the Chicago community. We give focus and priority to female-identifying and non-binary members of the Chicago community who face hardships under capitalism.
What We Do
Our work comes from the position that our socialism should be feminist and our feminism should be socialist. We look both within CDSA and out into the community to address some of the ways that capitalism oppresses some groups in different ways than others. Some of the things we’ve done include fundraising for the Chicago Abortion Fund, exposing crisis pregnancy centers, and hosting educational events and reading groups about socialist feminism.
The Socialist Feminist Working Group is led by an annually-elected Steering Committee made up of two co-chairs and three members-at-large.
Co-chairs serve as the working group’s leadership, serve as the primary contact and liaison to the Executive Committee, guide the overall direction and objectives of the working group, encourage actions and general participation by working group membership, and share administrative and logistical responsibilities.
Steering committee at-large members support the co-chairs, participate in setting priorities for the working group, encourage actions and general participation by working group membership, and share administrative and logistical responsibilities.
If you would like to be a part of our work, check the CDSA calendar for our next meeting or event–we love to see new and returning faces, and hear what kind of socialist feminist projects you’re excited to get involved in!
